EHRchain Partners, LLC was founded in 2018 to solve the problem of electronic health records (EHR) and transparent access for patient and provider. The company was started by the Collaborative Fund Partners and Dr. Michael McDonald.
A mandate for the incorporation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS) for Electronic Health Records(EHR) in the US began the early 2000’s. Since then thousands of “computerized medical systems” have been incorporated into hospitals and practices of medical professionals in the US and around the world to the tune of over 30 billion dollars thanks to American taxpayers. The problem; as noted from one of the CMS’ own report is that the transfer of a patients’ medical information is virtually non-existent as it was proposed over a decade ago. The computerized medical systems in use today simply do not communicate with one another.
EHRchain is a blockchain based solution for EHR that puts the patient in control of their data. A standards based open protocol will allow service providers access on a permission basis without the need to reenter data. A single version of a person’s medical history will lead to a truly personalized approach to medicine. At all times the patient will be able to grant and revoke access to their medical records. Providers will be able to view and understand a patients history without having to spend time tracking down the information from separate sources. The patient controlled access will make the platform both HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliant. Exchange of medical records with third party systems will be facilitated through standards such as CDA (Clinical Data Architecture) and FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources.)
